Six things you won't find at your local gym's yoga class

Signature

Live online 1-on-1 coaching

A real teacher on a two-way video call, watching you and correcting your alignment as you move. It isn't a recording and it isn't an app voice. Sessions start at 20 minutes, from your living room, hotel room or garden shed.

The Studio Passport

One membership, 13 cities. Working in Leeds on Tuesday and Glasgow on Thursday? Your mat's waiting in both. No extra fees and no "home studio" rules.

Rumble Breath & Commuter Flow

30-minute classes within a short walk of the main station, timed around peak trains, with showers and lockers included. At our railway-arch studios we hold the pose while a train passes overhead. Members love it.

Rain Check

Woken up to sideways rain? Swap any studio booking for a live online session up to one hour before class, for free. It's the most British feature we have.

Night Owl classes

22:00 classes for nurses, drivers, chefs and anyone else whose day ends when everyone else's does. Shift workers get a reduced rate with an NHS, transport or hospitality ID.

Turn up with nothing

Mats, blocks, straps, towels and filtered water are all included. Come straight from the office in your work clothes and we'll lend you the rest, freshly laundered.

Live online 1-on-1 coaching

A private yoga teacher on your screen, watching as you move

A pre-recorded video can't see that your knee has drifted past your ankle. Your James Yoga coach can, and tells you straight away.

  1. Pick your coach and time

Filter by style, language and speciality (back pain, pregnancy, runners, total beginners). Slots run from 06:00 to 22:30, seven days a week.

  2. Do a 5-minute movement check

Your coach watches a few simple movements to see how you move and where you're tight, then builds the session around you.

  3. Practise with live cues

Prop your phone or laptop up where it can see your mat. Your coach cues, corrects and adapts in real time over two-way video.

  4. Take home your plan

After each session you get a written practice plan and a private replay, so you can repeat it on your own between sessions.

Our story

It started on the Night Tube, at four in the morning

James never planned to open a yoga studio. He drove the Northern line through the night, and after two years of 3am shifts in a driver's cab his lower back had given up on him.

"I thought yoga was for people with free time. It turned out to be for people with none."James, founder

    The 4am Club

On his breaks in the Morden depot canteen, James starts stretching between the tables. Within a month six other drivers join him, and the cleaners call them "the 4am Club."

  2. 2017

    Teacher training on days off

He spends his rest days on 200 hours of yoga teacher training and practises cueing poses on anyone who will stand still, mostly his flatmate.

  3. 2018

    A railway arch in Bermondsey

The first studio opens under a railway arch. A train rumbles overhead every few minutes, so James turns it into a practice: hold the pose and breathe until it passes. Rumble Breath becomes our best-loved class.

  4. 2020

Gran Maggie and the ironing board

In lockdown, James's 84-year-old gran in Aberdeen asks for help with her hip. He props a laptop on the ironing board and coaches her live, twice a week. Her friends ask for sessions too, and live 1-on-1 online coaching is born. 1,000 sessions are booked in the first month.

  5. 2022

North of the river, then north of the border

Studios open in a former cotton mill in Manchester's Ancoats and a converted warehouse in Glasgow's Finnieston. Members start asking whether one membership could cover both.

  6. 2024

    The Studio Passport

It can. One membership now covers every city, with a free Rain Check swap to online whenever the weather wins.

  7. 2026

13 cities and one very loyal member

Today 60+ coaches teach in 13 cities and online. There's still no studio in Aberdeen. Maggie is 90 and still books every Tuesday at 10:00.

Questions

Before you roll out your mat

Is my first class really free?

Yes. Your first studio class in any of our 13 cities is free, and your first live online 1-on-1 taster (20 minutes) is free too. No card needed to book.

How does live online 1-on-1 yoga coaching work?

You pick a coach and a time, join a two-way video call from your phone, tablet or laptop, and your coach watches and corrects your alignment as you move. Afterwards you get a written plan and a replay. All you need is enough floor space for a mat and a device that can see you.

Can I use one membership in different cities?

Yes. The Studio Passport covers unlimited classes at every James Yoga studio in the UK, plus Rain Check swaps to online sessions.

I've never done yoga. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Around a third of our members start with no experience. Beginner-labelled classes run daily in every city, and a 1-on-1 session is a good way to start if you'd rather learn in private.

Can I cancel my membership?

Yes. The Studio Passport is rolling monthly with no minimum term. Cancel from your account before your next billing date.

Do you teach people with injuries or during pregnancy?

Many of our coaches hold additional training in pregnancy and injury-aware yoga. Tell us when you book and we'll match you with the right coach. Please check with your GP or midwife first.
